The Downtown for Everyone Streetscape Program represents a generational investment in Downtown Bloomington with tremendous potential to transform the way people experience the "heart of the City." From vibrant pedestrian corridors to new public spaces for concerts to new opportunities for outdoor dining, the implementation of this program will provide immediate quality of life improvements to visitors and residents alike. The Fox Creek Road Bridge replacement will increase the safety and capacity of Fox Creek Road and provide multi-modal access to cross Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR). This project is within the Hamilton/Fox Creek corridor, which provides east-west mobility for the community. UPRR and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) have reviewed the preliminary bridge plans, which have now moved on to the final stages of design. The multi-phase Locust/Colton CSO project involves construction of new sanitary sewers, conversion of the existing combined sewer into a storm sewer, and laying new water main. The sewer portion of the project, with nine phases, is projected to cost nearly $22 million and last through most of the decade. Click here to learn more about this project.

The Constitution Trail is a popular rail-to-trail conversion dating back to 1986 that spans the City of Bloomington and Town of Normal. The project will extend the Constitution Trail from Lafayette Street to Hamilton Road where it will connect to existing and planned trails. The new multi-use path will connect access to work and recreation for lower income areas on the City’s southeast side. This path extension is a cost-effective way to allow access across an existing pedestrian barrier (I-55 Business) and is included in multiple local and regional plans. The project will extend the Constitution Trail by approximately 4,700 linear feet and will connect users to Downtown Bloomington, parks, businesses, and residential areas in the west and south portions of the city that will provide a path separate from the roadway rather than just paved shoulders and sidewalk. Click here to learn more about this project.
