The City of Bloomington's Planning & Zoning Division aims to promote public health, safety and welfare by guiding the development of the built environment. The Planning and Zoning Division works with citizens, local leaders, city departments, developers, engineers, and nonprofit organizations to implement the community’s comprehensive vision.
The division provides technical and professional advice regarding city planning, zoning, subdivision planning, planned unit developments, historic preservation/rehabilitation, and sign regulation activities. The Division promotes and oversees coordinated, continuous, and comprehensive short and long-term urban planning for the future growth and development of the City of Bloomington.

The Planning Division may also be the first point of contact for citizens and developers in the Community. The Division oversees Bloomington’s weekly project review group meeting designed to assist developers in vetting projects during initial planning stages.
